Recently Baptist21 had the opportunity to sit down with Dr. Johnny Hunt, Pastor of First Baptist Church Woodstock Georgia and current President of the Southern Baptist Convention and ask him several questions about the Great Commission Resurgence. This interview will be published in two parts within the next few days. Here are three of the questions Dr. Hunt answers in the first part of this interview:
- What would a GCR look like?
- How do we put the GCR into practice?
- Why support the Baptist21 panel event
The following is a message from Dr. Hunt challenging churches to take up the great commission in every area of church life. We at Baptist21 are very excited about Dr. Hunt’s vision.

I am not sure that I understand the problem so many see with GCR. It appears that it simply says we need to look at how we are doing things and make them better if possible. IF there is more money/resources that can be sent to the mission field WHY would we not do that? I hope that we are not afraid of examination?
we agree with you…
Great job Pastor/President Johnny!! Keep up the great work. We certainly need to examine ourselves daily. That’s what being a good steward of the grace of God is all about. And if I can; I’d like to even remind all of us pastors that Peter said that “it’s time that judgment must begin at the house of God..” Paul said we should “..judge ourselves..” I am a huge fan of self examination. I don’t always like my findings. However, my dislike for the findings does not merrit a battle-cry against examination. It merrits my real need for repentance and re-direction. Thanks for all you and your team are doing to lead our convention into a right relationship with God!
